廢死議題在台灣一直爭論不下，前總統馬英九今天表示，很多人誤會加入兩公約就等於廢除死刑，但兩公約未規定要廢死，而是傾向用最嚴標準來規範死刑。
馬英九指出，從捷運殺人事件、北投劉小妹到內湖小燈泡等事件，讓死刑議題受到很大關注；現在很多人誤會台灣加入兩公約就等於承諾要廢除死刑，但兩公約（公民與政治權利國際公約與經濟社會文化權利國際公約）並未規定要廢除死刑，而是傾向用最嚴標準規範死刑。
